Cultural Considerations in Custody Litigation in Our Diverse Community Published in Family Law Review
Debbie’s article, Cultural Considerations in Custody Litigation in Our Diverse Community Cases, was published in the Georgia Bar Association Spring 2019 Family Law Review. Debbie authored the article to accompany her presentation at the 4th Annual Not Your Everyday Custody Case: Advanced Issues Facing Custody Litigators and Guardians ad Litem continuing legal education seminar on October 11, 2018, with over 100 attendees.
The article discusses culture’s role in custody and visitation cases; obstacles faced by litigants of various cultures in family courts; and avoiding pre-conceived and often unintentional cultural stereotypes, misunderstandings and biases that interfere with fairly applying the best interests of the children standard. Most helpful, the article also includes practical tips for litigators and Guardians ad Litem involved in bi- or multi-cultural custody and visitation cases.

Debbie Begins Collaboration with the Illustre Collegi d’Advocats de Barcelona (ICAB) to Develop Exchange CLE, Cultural and Networking Programs
On May 14, 2019 Debbie visited the Illustre Collegi d’Advocats de Barcelona (ICAB), the Barcelona Spain Bar Association. She had the honor of meeting with the ICAB President, M ͣ Eugènia Gay Rosell; Inmaculada Ruz, President of the Marriage and Family Law Section; Rosa Isabel Peña President of the International Relations Committee; Mercè Caral, Member of the International Relations Committee and President of the Barcelona/Madrid Chapter of the American Bar Association; and Marta Cuadrada, Head of the International Department/Chief of Protocol.
The purpose of the meeting was to build connections between Georgia and Barcelona attorneys by facilitating exchanges of ideas and information through programs offering educational, cultural and networking opportunities.
